| Name: | Aleksander "Paladin" Storm |
|---|---|
| Website: | StormForge HeadQuarters (very neglected) |
Computer, Game, and Anime enthusiast of varying tastes.
Very few things not liked. Except stupidity (ignorance, prejudice, etc).
Despite the use of the term 'Paladin', I'm apparently more of a Ranger-Mage who is merely zealously loyal with respect to his friends.
Formerly enrolled in the Computer Career Institute at Johns Hopkins University, having taken modules in the Digital Media Series. Currently working for the Engineering for Professionals division of Johns Hopkins University.
TCWiki - for Megatokyo: the Clans. Currently acting as the replacement for DWC's site.
The Silencers - SuperGroup in City of Heroes of which I am a member. (Currently on a sort of 'prolonged absence', and will be allowed back in on their active player list the moment I can actually spare the time)
Elite Mystics of the Inner Sanctum
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
/ "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
/ "Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."
- Benjamin Franklin
"There's no honorable way to kill, no gentle way to destroy. There is nothing good in war. Except its ending."
- Abraham Lincoln
"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The real and lasting victories are those of peace, and not of war."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war."
- General Douglas MacArthur
"It is fatal to enter any war without the will to win it."
- General Douglas MacArthur
"There is many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory, but, boys, it is all hell. You can bear this warning voice to generations yet to come. I look upon war with horror."
- General William Tecumseh Sherman
"War is as much a punishment to the punisher as it is to the sufferer."
- Thomas Jefferson
"Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared."
- Edward Vernon Rickenbacker
"When we are afraid we ought not to occupy ourselves with endeavoring to prove that there is no danger, but in strengthening ourselves to go on in spite of the danger."
-Mark Rutherford (William Hale White)
"Sometimes the biggest act of courage is a small one."
- Lauren Raffo
"We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today who sheds his blood with me shall be my brother."
- from William Shakespeare's King Henry V
Wiki- Blood brother - Linked here in honor of my Blood Brother, Patrick "Rage Dancer Wolf" / "Werewolf31" 'Daemon Howell' (real last name withheld here). Comrade, best friend, and brother. May we live as brothers until the end of our days. There is no other guy I'd rather have watching my back than this loyal fellow.
He is a founder and highly-respected member of Wolf Pack Alpha. Be nice to your friendly neighborhood wolf. ^^
Currently serving beside members of Clan Hyena, the gaming group associated with Wolf Pack Alpha. Also headed by Patrick, but membership does not necessarily mirror WPA's, but there is definitely much crossover.
Most prominent game we play together is EVE Online, but there are plenty of others.
I have a distinct naming scheme for my EVE ships- battleships have thus far carried Norse myth related names - the Maelstrom dubbed Mjolnir (Thor's hammer, of course) being my most prominent vessel, though the Typhoon-class Megingjord (usually configured for defensive support role- appropriate for Thor's strength-boosting belt) has also shown itself, and the Tempest-class Tyrian (or Tyr, Norse god of war - perfect for a ship I'm most likely to take to war) has been ideal for high-risk areas.
I have only had one type of battlecruiser, but it has carried a Japanese name I usually reserve for a distinct kind of craft that fits me well. Kaminari is a flexible, versatile Hurricane-class warship. It is strong enough to stand beside battleships, but maneuverable enough to keep pace with cruisers.
All vessels cruiser or smaller have carried a distinct [weather element] [bird (of prey)] scheme. Rifter-class Bolt Falcon, Thrasher-class ThunderHawk, and Stabber-class Storm Eagle. As well, I tend to name any Minmatar shuttle I use as Wind Sparrow. Recently, I acquired a tech 1 Probe-class scout frigate and named it Eagle Eye, which somewhat breaks from the scheme, but is still quite appropriate.
On the matter of Capital Ships:
For a Nidhoggur-class Minmatar carrier, I use Tenjin, the name of a Japanese god of wisdom and the sky. Elements of his mythos mean much to me, and the vessel has been a scholarly balance of force and protection.
In this same manner, I would imagine using for a Hel-class supercarrier the name Raijin, a god of thunder, who feels far more ferocious a foe. Dreadnoughts... aren't my style, though, and the Naglfar requires much skill to use properly, by comparison.
